WHO: 12-15 Year Olds

WHEN: Monday - Friday (Specific Timing Listed Below)
            Session 1: June 24 - 28
            Session 2: July 8 - 12
            Session 3: July 22 - 26

WHERE: Furnace Brook Middle School / Marshfield Locations with water access (See specifics below)
*Please note- School location subject to change

FEE: $250.00 (Residents) $265.00 (Non-Residents) Per Participant/Per Week (Includes Ocean Explorers T-Shirt)

STAFF: This program will be led by experienced Furnace Brook Middle School Teacher, Mr. Ed Boudreau, along with the help of college and high school aged Recreation Staff. All staff are CPR & First Aid Certified, CORI background checked, and annually trained for leading youth programming.


OBJECTIVES:
-
To promote and foster a love for learning about the oceans.
-
To provide students with the opportunities to investigate their local ocean communities.
-
To identify and catalog local species creating a simple database that can be added to.
-
To inspire students to pursue further learning about the ocean and marine sciences.

SCHEDULE:
Monday: 8:30am - 12:00pm (FBMS Classroom)
-Welcome and Introduction to Ocean Explorers.
-Where we are in the world- Exploring Massachusetts Bay.
-Preparing for our Tuesday Trip.

Tuesday: 8:00am - 1:00pm
-Rocky Intertidal Zone (Meet at end of Brant Rock parking lot- South Street).
-Collection of specimens & data during visit using various sampling techniques and equipment.

Wednesday: 8:30am - 12:00pm (FBMS Classroom)
- Learning about the Rocky Intertidal Zone.
- Identification and mounting of collected specimens.
-Learning about local alga species.
-Preparing for Thursday Trip.

Thursday: 8:00am-1:00pm
-Estuary Study at Green Harbor/Green Harbor River (Meet at Town Pier-Harbor Park end- Joseph Driebeek Way).
-Collection of specimen & data during visit using various sampling techniques and equipment.

Friday: 8:30am-12:00pm (FBMS Classroom)
-Learning about the Estuary.
-Identification and mounting of collected specimens.
Last stuff about local & other species prepared
-Final Touches to artifact presentations.
-Students volunteer to show & tell about their experiences and artifacts
11:15am-12:00pm- Parents classroom visit!
